Safeguarding

Every journey takes place in a position of trust.

Green Destinations expects staff to protect passenger welfare, maintain professional boundaries and report concerns promptly. Safeguarding is part of recruitment, training, daily conduct and operational escalation.

Safer recruitment process

Safer recruitment

Safeguarding starts before deployment.

Relevant roles are subject to appropriate identity, employment, reference, licence and DBS suitability checks according to the role and contract requirements. Recruitment controls are followed by role expectations, training and operational supervision.

  • Identity and right-to-work checks.
  • Appropriate DBS suitability checks for relevant roles.
  • References and employment information reviewed.
  • Driving licence and role requirements checked where applicable.
  • Safeguarding and professional conduct expectations made clear.

Professional boundaries

Clear boundaries protect everyone.

Staff should be kind and supportive without creating personal relationships that sit outside the transport role. Well-intentioned actions can still create risk or misunderstanding if boundaries are unclear.

No private contact

No exchange of private phone numbers, social media contact or personal messaging with passengers.

Proportionate assistance

Physical assistance must be necessary, appropriate, respectful and within the agreed role or passenger support requirements.

No secrecy

Staff must not promise confidentiality when a passenger discloses something that may indicate a welfare or safeguarding concern.

Passenger welfare and safeguarding

Recognise and report

Transport staff may notice things others do not see.

Drivers and passenger assistants may observe changes in behaviour, presentation or home circumstances, hear a disclosure or encounter an unsafe handover. Their role is not to investigate. It is to protect immediate safety, listen appropriately and report the concern through the defined route.

  • Do not investigate or interrogate the passenger.
  • Do not promise to keep a disclosure secret.
  • Record and report concerns promptly and factually.
  • Use emergency services where there is an immediate threat to life or safety.
Safe passenger handover

Safe handovers

Collection and drop-off are safeguarding moments.

Passengers must not simply be left when expected arrangements are not in place. Staff follow the agreed handover process and involve operations if the authorised person is unavailable, details have changed or there is a welfare concern.
